Conference Programming Highlights

  • A Draft of speakers and workshop times is now available  - LMSA National Confirmed Speakers Feb 2010
  • NEW – Thursday, March 4, 2010, 6-8 PM CST, “LMSA Meet & Greet” – Join us for an informal reception at the Marriott/Medical District Hotel and meet our LMSA Leaders!
  • Conference Venue for workshops and keynote addresses are at the UIC Forum. Google Map link here
    • March 5 and 6 all conference program workshops and meetings will be held at the UIC Forum. A free shuttle service from the Marriott Medical district to the UIC Forum (where most conference activities are located) is available.

  • Join us for a networking reception at the National Museum of Mexican Art – Friday evening,  March 5 at 6:00 pm CST. The art gallerys will be opened especially for our conference attendees. All speakers and workshop leaders are invited to attend this reception. Light hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be served.

    • The Honorable Cynthia Soto, Illinois State Representative, Chair of  Higher Education Appropriations Committee.
    • Dr. Cristina Beato, Director, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, Formerly served as: Deputy Director of the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization, Acting Assistant Secretary for Health (ASH), Office of Public Health and Science (OPHS), HHS, and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health, HHS and Assistant Surgeon General, RADM, U.S. Public Health Service.
    • Dr. Elena Rios, CEO & President, National Hispanic Medical Association. Recently named in Hispanic Business Magazine’s Top 100 Most Influential Hispanics. Dr. Rios also serves on the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda and the Boards of Directors for Partnerships for Prevention, the American Medical Association Commission to End Health Disparities, and is Co-Chair for the Hispanic Health Coalition.

England, Professor of Surgery, Director of Trauma Clinical Research, Training and Community Affairs, Director of the Trauma and Surgical Critical Care Fellowship, University of Miami – Miller School of Medicine. Dr. Asensio is a nationally and internationally recognized expert in the field of trauma surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, American College of Critical Care Medicine and of The Royal College of Surgeons of England.
    • Dr. Alberto Manetta, Associate Dean, University of California – Irvine. Chair, Board of Directors –Latino Health Access, Santa Ana, CA. Topic: “Reform in Medical Education”

  • Sunday, March 7 – Break out meetings
    • Please make note that our regional meetings , officer training, and 2011 conference planning meetings will be held at the UIC College of Medicine campus from 8:00am until 1:00 pm on Sunday. Ask your regional leaders about  these meeting agendas.
  • Residency Program, Medical Specialty, and Pre-medical Exhibitor Fair – A 3 hour fair especially for pre-medical and medical students to meet with GME representatives and medical school admissions representatives. The date for the fair is Saturday, March 6, 2010. See a list of confirmed exhibitors here (2010 Exhibitors List).
  • Pre-medical student programming – Saturday, March 6 we will hold a full day of pre-medical student workshops including medical school mock interviews, AMCAS application and admissions workshops. We expect between 50-100 premedical students to attend. Pre-medical student workshops will begin Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 8:00am. Pre-medical students are invited to attend all keynote speeches and meals on Friday, including: the morning opening remarks, noon time lunch keynote, and the evening networking reception.
  • Leadership and networking opportunities – Join us at the largest national meeting of Latino medical students and network with Latino medical students and professionals from across the U.S.A.! Take advantage of national leadership opportunities: LMSA National Officers are elected at our conference business meetings.
