Northwestern University Residency Showcase
February 10th, 2010Dear Colleague,
I would appreciate your help in spreading the word to your medical students who will be graduating in 2011 regarding the following two programs at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
In partnership with our Office of Minority and Cultural Affairs, the Northwestern McGaw Center for Graduate Medical Education residency training programs have planned a Residency Program Showcase on
Saturday, May 1, 2010. Northwestern McGaw is the GME sponsor for the following institutions:
Children’s Memorial Hospital, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, and the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center. The showcase will take place at Prentice Women’s Hospital on the
Northwestern Medicine campus from 9:30 – 4:00 pm. The primary goal of this program is to diversify our residency program applicant pools, so we are particularly interested in attracting students with diverse backgrounds to attend. We are aiming for diversity in a very holistic sense, including (but not limited to): gender, race, ethnicity, language skills, life experience, sexual orientation, religion, etc. The patient population in our hospitals is extremely diverse and in order to continue to provide excellent care and
training, we recognize the need for a diverse cohort of trainees.
We have an exciting agenda planned this year, with a resident experiences panel, program directors selection factors panel, and a recruitment fair where representatives from our 21 residency training programs will be
present. Please post the attached flyer and/or forward this information to your students. Registration is free and can be accomplished online at:

Also, we are pleased to continue the Northwestern McGaw visiting clerkship diversity stipends for the 2010-2011 academic year. The program provides awards of $500-$1,500 to assist selected students
completing visiting clerkships at Northwestern during their senior year of medical school. The application and complete program information can be found on the medical education visiting students website:

If you have questions, please feel free to call Ms. Sunny Gibson, Director of the Office of Minority and Cultural Affairs, at 312.503.4476 or s-gibson@northwestern.edu. We appreciate your help in recruiting
students for these exciting programs!
Sincerely,
